FAQ

What is a personal safety reflector?

A wearable attachment that reflects light and a proven and effective way of increasing visibility in the dark.

How do our reflectors work?

They work on the principle of retroreflection, which occurs when a large amount of reflected light is returned directly to its source with very little scattering of light. To a driver, the reflector appears brilliant white when illuminated by their vehicle’s headlights, even when the wearer is situated at the side of the road.

How do you wear reflectors?

Ranging from clip-ons to stickers, SlapSticks™ to luggage tags, our reflective accessories and NHL reflectors can be attached to coats, purses, backpacks, laptop bags, rubber boots, wrists, arms, ankles, pet leashes, bicycles, helmets, strollers, wheelchairs, scooters, umbrellas – anywhere and on anything that helps alert motorists to the wearer’s presence while walking, running, cycling, or otherwise near traffic after dark.

What are our reflectors made of?

Each reflector is created from 3M Scotchlite™ reflective material to produce a soft, durable reflector printed with a unique image in four colours or in black and white. Each reflector consists of tens of thousands of micro-prisms formed on flexible, glossy, and UV-stabilized polymeric film.

How visible are our reflectors?

Our reflective accessories and NHL reflectors are visible up to a distance of 250 metres (820 feet), depending on weather conditions, the angle and type of a vehicle’s headlights, and how freely the reflector is hanging. (Distance specifications from 3M Scotchlite™.)

How are our reflectors safer than others?

The absence of standards for personal safety reflectors in North America has resulted in an unpredictable range of quality and reflectivity in reflectors sold for personal use. Finnex Reflectors brings rigorous European standards to the manufacture of our reflective accessories and NHL reflectors, which are made in accordance with European Union Standard CE EN13356 and certified by the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health.1 That means you can count on each of our reflectors to have the same manufacturing excellence and to be consistently reflective to 250 metres (820 feet) in the dark.

Why do I need a reflector?

Reflectors allow you to be seen in the dark. According to the Nordic Road Safety Council (2010), in Scandinavian countries, about 87% of pedestrians wear a reflector when walking at dusk or in the dark. Such high usage rates have kept nighttime pedestrian injury and death rates in the 30% range, which is less than half of that in the U.S.

How durable are our reflectors?

They are weatherproof and waterproof, and reflective when wet. Their lifespan depends on conditions of use, environment, and maintenance. Regular cleaning with a damp cloth using a mild soap will ensure their continued effectiveness. Reflectors are made to withstand cold temperatures to –20 C.

Are reflectors recyclable?

Yes, they are 100% recyclable.
